Values are the core beliefs that guide the UCR Student Section of the Society of Women Engineers. They are what provide the immediate foundation by which we are recognized as part of the Society and set apart from the general student population of the college.

The Society of Women Engineers - University of California , Riverside Student Section was founded in 1998. Our organization strives to stimulate women to achieve their full potential in careers as engineers and leaders, expand the image of the engineering profession as a positive force in improving the quality of life, and demonstrate the value of diversity. We conduct our activities in a professional manner, aspiring to honesty and dignity in our personal and professional relationships and responsibilities. We acknowledge individual differences and strive to respect the value that they bring, along with providing support for personal and professional development.

From the day our section was founded until now, members of our organization have experienced valuable benefits, from building the skills necessary to become successful student leaders and engineers, to meeting new people by networking and gaining support from fellow women engineers. Members of SWE at UCR have had many opportunities to take advantage of during the course of our history. There have been opportunities to plan meetings, organize career guidance events, improve speaking skills, and even plan a National Conference. Members get a chance to gain experience working in teams, and also expand on their knowledge of graduate schools, companies, internships, and scholarships.

A few accomplishments and successful events SWE has achieved are being named College of Engineering 's Outstanding Club of the Year for the '03-'04 school year and our annual Girl Scout Day outreach event, which was Out Reach Event of the Year for the '04-'05 school year. SWE also participates in National Engineering Week every year with the Women's Professional Panel Event for the past several years. Panel members have included current professors at UCR, alumni, leaders in industry and the Chancellor. Members have also had the opportunity to participate at national and regional conferences each year, including this past year in Anaheim , California . This past summer, SWE members also contributed their volunteer efforts to the Minds for Design summer Girl Scout Day Camp, which introduces girls to thinking like scientists and engineers.
