FACULTY POSITIONS
DEPARTMENT OF CHEMICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING
University of California, Riverside
Bourns College of Engineering

The Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of California, Riverside invites applications for tenure-track or tenured faculty positions. The department currently consists of 14 faculty members with active research in Biotechnology, Air and Water Quality Systems Engineering, Advanced Materials and Nanotechnology, Energy Systems, and Molecular Modeling.

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering or a related field. Although all areas of research will be considered, we are particularly interested in applicants with research interest in:

(1) Nanostructured or advanced materials with focus on (bio)sensors, (bio)MEMS or nano-biotechnology.

(2) Global environmental issues; sustainable energy (biofuels, fuel cells, etc.) with focus on either catalysis or biomolecular engineering.

(3) Polymer synthesis and engineering with emphasis on nanoscale applications; nanostructured materials and self assembly for applications in fuel cells, photovoltaics, drug delivery, or tissue engineering; polypeptide synthesis. The expectation for this multidisciplinary position is to contribute to both the CEE department and the Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) program.

(4) New electronic materials for application in devices for logic, memory storage (spintronics) and 3D-electronics; carbon nanotubes, graphene, diamond and molecule-based nano-materials. The expectation for this position is to contribute to both the CEE department and Center for Nanoscale Science and Engineering (CNSE).

The successful applicants will complement the highly motivated and entrepreneurial spirit of the College faculty.  New faculty members are expected to initiate and sustain strong sponsored multidisciplinary research and graduate training programs.  People with vigorous research programs and demonstrated graduate student productivity are strongly encouraged to apply for appointment at the senior rank. Salary level will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.

The Bourns College of Engineering is proud of its faculty’s accomplishments and rapid growth.  Over the past five years, the numbers of faculty and undergraduates have nearly doubled; graduate student enrollment has increased six-fold, and research expenditures have more than tripled.  The College currently has 80 faculty members, 1300 undergraduates, more than 300 graduate students, and more than $30 million in annual research expenditures.  The College recently opened its Engineering II building and is expecting the opening of two additional buildings, Material Science and Engineering, and Engineering III in 2009 and 2011, respectively.  The BCOE recently initiated a Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) program which is an innovative, interdisciplinary program offered jointly across all BCOE departments. The program emphasizes nanotechnology and energy conversion, areas which are synergetic with the campus efforts in these fields. More information about the MSE program can be found at http://www.engr.ucr.edu/mse/

The search committee will start reviewing applications on 12/1/2007, and will continue to receive applications until the positions are filled.  To apply please register through the weblink at www.engr.ucr.edu/facultysearch/ and submit the requested files.
