Professor Hua's research spans signal processing and its applications, wireless communications and networking, remote sensing and sensor networks.

Biography

Yingbo Hua received a bachelor degree from Nanjing Institute of Technology, Nanjing, China, in February 1982, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Syracuse University, Syracuse, NY, in 1983 and 1988, respectively. He won a Chinese Government Scholarship and a Syracuse University Graduate Fellowship for his graduate education. In February 1990, he joined the University of Melbourne, Australia, where he was a professor until 2001. He was also a visiting professor with Hong Kong University of Science and Technology from 1999 to 2000. Since February 2001, he has been Professor of Electrical Engineering with the University of California, Riverside, CA. He has consulted for companies/organizations such as Microsoft Research, WA; Defence Science and Technology Organization, Australia; Aeritalia, Italy; and Syracuse Research, NY. He has received major research awards and grants from Australian Research Council, Australian Cooperative Research Centre for Sensor Signal and Information Processing, US National Science Foundation, US Army Research Laboratory, and US Army Research Office. He has trained 17 Ph.D. students, 7 masters-by-research students, and 7 postdoctoral fellows. Several of them have become professors at major universities in Australia, France and China, and many others are working with industrial companies. Dr Hua has published over 260articles in journals, books and conference proceedings. He is a co-editor of the books: Signal Processing Advances in Wireless and Mobile Communications, Prentice-Hall, 2001, and High-Resolution and Robust Signal Processing, Marcel Dekker, 2003. He served as Associate Editor for IEEE Transactions on Signal Processing and IEEE Signal Processing Letters , Editor for EURASIP Signal Processing, Guest Editor for IEEE Signal Processing Magazine, Member of Editorial Board for IEEE Signal Processing Magazine . He has been a member on IEEE Signal Processing Society’s Technical Committees for Underwater Acoustic Signal Processing, Sensor Array and Multi-channel Signal Processing, and Signal Processing in Communications. He also served on Program Committees of many international conferences and workshops. He was elected to Fellow of IEEE in 2002 for “Contributions to High Resolution Signal Processing and Blind System Identification”. His current research interests span signal processing and its applications, wireless communications and networking, remote sensing and sensor networks.
