Giving
What does my gift accomplish?
With an unrestricted gift to BCOE, you support projects and opportunities such as:
- Move mouse over for more information.
- Student Opportunities
- Baja Mini Buggy
The UCR Mini Baja Team participates in an intercollegiate engineering design competition sponsored by the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). To simulate a real-world engineering design project, the students must design a vehicle with mass production cost below $3000. Functioning as a team, the students design, build, test, promote and race a vehicle within the limits of the Mini Baja competition rules.
- Faculty Mentoring
Opportunities to work beside faculty are a hallmark of BCOE, where undergraduates are mentored one-on-one by their instructors and participate in important research in their field of study.
- National Engineers Week
A series of events that showcase the discipline of engineering for other students and visitors on the UCR campus. Activities range from an egg drop competition to free ice cream made with liquid nitrogen.
- Robotics Competition
In 2004, the competition consisted of three autonomous Sumo robots, attempting to push one another out of the competition ring. A robotics competition is held each year.
- Student Scholarships
The 2005 - 2006 UCR registration fees, totaling $7,251.00 per student, cover less than 40% of the approximately $20,000 per year required to educate each undergraduate student living on campus.

- Bourns Science & Engineering Day
Each year Bourns, Inc. sponsors this event, inviting high school students from around the area to come to campus, interact with and hear presentations from faculty, students and local industry executives, compete in various science and engineering activities, and explore technical/scientific careers.
- Frontiers in Nanotechnology
One of the high school students invited to participate in this program says of the opportunity, "This has been amazing, a lot more than I expected. Most people think research is independent study, but I found out that there's a lot of interaction. I really feel I fit in here."
- UCR Regional Space Science and Engineering Day
The 2004 UCR Regional Space Science and Engineering Day drew more than 1,000 participants, including girl scouts, their families and UCR families, to participate in an afternoon of discovery and fun. Sponsored by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, the participants were able to feel a Mars Rover drive over them, launch rockets, and make comets & craters. The event was designed to encourage children ages 7-14 to consider careers in engineering and science.

- Research Opportunities
- Cellular Research
The placement of sensors on single cells in order to track changes in a cell over its life cycle, or to analyze drug delivery, may lead to a more in depth study of and cure to cancer.
- Homeland Security
Work in wireless distributed sensors to detect chemical or biological substances in our air, water, supplies, shipping containers and more can help make our country, our communities and our homes safer.

- Equipment
The state-of-the-art equipment here at BCOE not only advances research and education of our students, but also helps fuel the economic engine of the region by giving companies access to equipment they would otherwise have to acquire, thus enabling them to invest their resources in personnel.
- New State-of-the-Art Buildings
Invest in places of learning. We continue to expand to create a more comprehensive and excellent educational experience for students of UCR.
- Career Days/Seminars
BCOE believes strongly in preparing our students for a career upon their graduation from UCR. These opportunities allow students to participate in mock interviews, talk with real recruiters, and hear the important aspects of career seeking, interviewing and internship opportunities directly from CEOs.
- New Faculty
New faculty members enhance our academic departments and bring new expertise to the college as well as the students who work alongside them.
