Student Mentoring and Advising
The faculty and the professionals of the Office of Student Academic Affairs offer support and resources to help students be successful. The Engineering curriculum is demanding and your will want to take advantage of all the resources that are available.
Academic Advisors advise you on campus services, resources and on issues arising at the college and in your department. They are also a great source for prospective students to get information on admission requirements. They also are the first contacts for students seeking readmission, special admission, major changes, double majors, and minors. You will want to stay in regular contact with them to monitor your academic progress, course planning and other registration details.
Faculty Advisors help students to customize their academic experience through substitute major requirements.
Faculty Mentors promote a strong relationship between students and professors in the department. They also consult on matters pertaining to career planning, understanding engineering in general, and specifically for gaining a better appreciation of their major. Mentors can also provide guidance on what it takes to be successful as an engineering student, and provide suggestions to enable students to gain confidence and self-motivation.
The Professional Development Officer is there to keep students thinking and advancing on their eventual career plans. He works with the UCR Career Center, the faculty, alumni, student organizations and industry recruiters to prepare students to be successful in their first jobs and beyond. We help ensure the success of our students by working with our departments and student chapters of our professional societies.
You will get to know the Student Success Counselors who operate Student Affairs Resource Center. They conduct our Academic Success Workshops and other helpful sessions.
The Associate Dean makes sure that the student affairs staff is empowered to meet its goals of promoting student success. In addition to coordinating the ongoing activities for recruitment and retention, he develops new programs and new initiatives to maximize program quality and outcomes.
