Fall 2008 Registration Information

During April and May, the Office of Student Academic Affairs will be conducting Annual Major Advising sessions for all students in the College of Engineering. These mandatory advising sessions, offered by major, focus on important degree program and college information. The schedule for the advising sessions appears below. Attending your session will help ensure that you register at your appointed time.

Undeclared students who are planning to change to a major outside of the College of Engineering should attend one of the UNDECLARED sessions.
Undeclared students who are planning to stay in the College of Engineering should attend one of the sessions for the major they wish to declare.

If you cannot make any of the sessions specific to your major, contact your assigned Academic Advisor PRIOR to the first session for your major.

Failure to Attend a Major Advising Session:
If you fail to attend an Annual Major Advising Session without informing your assigned Academic Advisor, your registration will be delayed until June 2nd.
Beginning on June 2nd, you will need to review the Annual Major Advising session handout and quiz for your specific major. This handout can be picked up at the front desk in the Office of Student Academic Affairs (located in Bourns Hall, room A159C). Once you’ve completed the quiz, you will need to turn it in to your assigned academic advisor to clear your hold.

REGISTRATION  HOLD INFORMATION

Attendance at Annual Major Advising:
Attendance at each major advising session will be verified by scanning student ID cards. You must bring your student ID card to your major advising session. If you do not have your ID card, your registration hold will not be removed.  Holds will be removed within 2 hours after the session ends. Log into GROWL to view if you have any additional holds.

Good Academic Standing:
If you are in good academic standing (quarter and cumulative GPAs above 2.0), you will be able to register at your appointed time once all your holds are cleared.

Academic Difficulty Holds:
  • Academic Success Workshop Hold:
If you have not yet met with your assigned Academic Advisor and submitted the documents you received at the Academic Success Workshop (or from an Academic Success Counselor), you still have a hold and cannot register for the 2008 Fall Quarter until it is cleared.

  • Follow Up Assessment Hold:
Students in academic difficulty who attended an Academic Success Workshop also need to complete an online follow-up assessment.  You will receive an email with instructions on how to access the online assessment to clear your hold.

  • Course Plan Hold:
If you are in academic difficulty (quarter and/or cumulative GPA is below 2.0), you must complete a Course Plan for the 2008 Fall Quarter on GROWL. You are limited to registering for 13 units in the fall quarter until you return to good academic standing.  Please only submit a Course Plan for 13 units. Your Advisor will review your Course Plan within 2 business days.  Please check GROWL to see if the hold has been cleared or if you need to provide further clarification.

  •
    Faculty Mentor Holds:
  • If your major is Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering or Environmental Engineering, or if you are a freshman student in Mechanical Engineering, you must meet with your assigned Faculty Mentor. Your Faculty Mentor must sign a Salmon (Peach) colored Clearance Slip verifying your meeting. These slips are available in the Student Academic Affairs office (Bourns Hall A159C). Once you bring the signed slip to the Office of Student Academic Affairs your hold will be cleared within 2 hours. If you have no other holds you will be able to register at your appointed registration time.

  • If you are new to the College of Engineering, please check with your assigned Academic Advisor to be assigned to a Faculty Mentor.
  • Undeclared Students:

  • Students who are currently Undeclared in the College of Engineering should plan to meet with an Advisor in their proposed major department before completing the Course Plan and/or registering in classes. Advisors in other departments are only available to discuss possible major changes prior to the beginning of the registration period. Until your major change is official, you are still subject to all rules and regulations of the College of Engineering.

  • If you have any questions about these advising procedures, please contact your assigned Academic Advisor or the Office of Student Academic Affairs, at 951-UCR-ENGR.
