Symposia Students who do undergraduate research projects receive additional benefits from the process of participating in student research symposia. This is a capstone experience that allows the student researcher a venue to explain their work to others and to interact with their peers. Students may also win awards at these events. The events are sometimes conducted on the UCR campus or at nearby campuses. They may also occur just about anywhere in the world where professional societies meet. In general there is usually monetary support available for students who wish to participate in these meetings. Support may include registration, travel and meal expenses. If you are interested in attending a symposium and would like some monetary help, you should start with the meeting webpage to see what is available there. You should then discuss the possibilities with your faculty mentor or program director, and the undergraduate research office. The following is a partial listing of events, locations, dates, and URL's that BCOE students regularly participate in: UC Riverside First Annual Symposium for Undergraduate Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity Southern California Conference on Undergraduate Research, (SCCUR) Biomedical Engineering Society Annual Fall Meeting, BMES 2007 SACNAS Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, American Chemical Society, Western Regional Meeting 2007, TechHorizons UCR Graduate and Undergraduate Poster Session, Guthrie Undergraduate Summer Research Symposium American Institute of Chemical Engineers National & Regional, Student Conferences, Air and Waste Management Association (A&WMA)'s 100th Annual Conference and Exhibition |
