Chris Dames received a B.S. and M.S. from UC Berkeley and a Ph.D. from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.  His doctoral work included modeling of quantum and classical size effects in nanostructures, micro- and nano-fabrication, and experimental characterization of the thermal properties of individual nanowires and nanotubes inside a transmission electron microscope.  He previously developed an optical technique to track the deflections of multiple bioMEMS cantilevers.  From 1998-1999 he worked as a research engineer for Solo Energy Corp. (Alameda, CA), testing prototypes of 40-80 kW gas turbine generators.
