August, 2005. Ph.D. student Aniket Sawant along with David Cocker and Dr. J. Wayne Miller joined research teams from University of Missouri Rolla, Arnold Engineering Development Center (Air Force), California Air Resources Board, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, South Coast Air Quality Management District, National Aeronautics and Space Administration, Federal Aviation Administration, Aerodyne Research Incorporated, and University of Central Florida in cooperation with Oakland Airport and Southwest Airlines in testing emissions from four 737 jet airliners. August, 2005. Ph.D. student Abhilash Nigam successfully completed his Ph.D. proposal defense.
July, 2005. Ph.D. student Bethany Warren has been awarded a Star Graduate Fellowship from the Environmental Protection Agency. This highly selective fellowship will fund her research through June, 2008.
July 2005. Ph.D. student Abhilash Nigam joined Bill Welch and John Pisano in testing emissions from an ocean-going Maersk container ship. Abhilash will analyze emissions for elemental and organic carbon, ions including sulfate, metals, carbonyls, gas-phase mobile source air toxics and polyaromatic hydrocarbons for the engine operating on a high sulfur fuel (bunker fuel) and a low sulfur marine distillate fuel both pre- and post- SCR and DOC aftertreatment devices. June, 2005. Ph.D. student Abhilash Nigam has been awarded the Esther Hayes Graduate Fellowship for 2005-2006 for his research on the characterization of diesel sources.
June, 2005. Recent graduate Temitope Ogunyoku (B.S. Chemical Engineering) has received the Jim Guthrie Undergraduate Research award for her research project entitled “An Examination of Artifacts in Measurements of Elemental and Organic Carbon When Sampling Diesel Exhaust.” She will attend the Ph.D. program in Environmental Engineering at UC Davis.
February, 2005. David Cocker awarded early development CAREER award from the National Science Foundation.
January, 2005. Dr. Sandip Shah (former Ph.D. student) has begun his position at the Ford Motor Company Research Laboratories.
