Together, we have the opportunity to encourage local students to become better informed about space science and engineering. Volunteers are vital to our success. You don't have to be an engineer to participate. You have your choice on how you want to be involved, even if you only have a limited amount of time. Shifts can vary/times can be flexible. We will supply materials and activity directions. All you have to do is bring your enthusiasm!

SWE-UCR Selected to Host "WOW! That's Engineering!"

The Society of Women Engineers National selected the UCR SWE student section to host their Wow! That's Engineering? outreach event in Fall 2007. The event is designed to bring young girls together with female engineers to learn more about the field of engineering through interactive activities and discussions. The selection process included a review of 22 applications from 19 professional sections, and 3 student sections across the nation. Collaborators for the event will include SWE national, and the Orange County Professional Section to plan for the West Coast event. The other two host sites selected were Atlanta and Minnesota.

| UCR Space Science and Engineering Day ("Girl Scout Day") |

Mandatory training session date/time: Saturday, October 14, 10am-3pm

Location: Bourns College of Engineering
UCR Space Science and Engineering Day is a collaboration between SWE, the Bourns College of Engineering, and NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory to show children the fun side of science and engineering. Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, children of UCR faculty and staff, and students from local K-12 schools will come to campus to learn about space science and engineering through interactive demonstrations, such as Cratering, Straw Rockets, the Mars Rover, and Edible Rocks.
Many volunteers will be needed to make this event again the huge success it has been in past years! Please email swe[at]engr.ucr.edu if you would like to volunteer. Volunteering has its perks!
