The Dean's Council of Advisors comprises active or retired senior leaders from business, industry, government, and academia who represent the broad spectrum of regional, statewide, and national high-technology industries. The council provides the dean of the Marlan & Rosemary Bourns College of Engineering with an external perspective on the college's programs and activities; identifies issues important to the success of these initiatives; provides guidance, counsel, consultation, and recommendations to the dean; reviews curricula for relevance and research for purpose and progress; and provides other assistance and support as required by the dean.
Gordon Bourns
Chairman and CEO, Bourns, Inc.
Chairman, BCOE Council of Advisors
Mr. Bourns is the chairman of the board and CEO of Bourns, Inc. Headquartered in Riverside, Bourns, Inc. is a leading manufacturer and supplier of sensors, magnets, and other microelectronic products. Gordon’s parents, Marlan and Rosemary, named the UCR engineering school in 1994. Mr. Bourns has served on the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees since 1984 and was the chair from 1997 to 1999.
Ernest Levister
Physician, Private Practice
Vice Chairman, BCOE Council of Advisors
Dr. Levister is a physician specializing in internal and occupational medicine in San Bernardino. He is also a School of Medicine – Community Advisory Board member. Dr. Levister helped establish the African-Americans United in Science organization at UCR and was the commencement keynote speaker in 2014. Dr. Levister was previously an instructor at several US universities, served in the Army Medical Corps, and was an attache in the State Department.
Mark H. Boyd
Technical Fellow, Software, The Boeing Co.

Mr. Boyd is a Boeing Technical Fellow and the Chief Software Engineer for a large Boeing AvionX software project, whose key areas of technical expertise include Software Architecture and Engineering (embedded and enterprise), User Experience/User Interfaces and Visualization, and Machine Learning. Mr. Boyd holds Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees in computer science from UCR.
John Brisco
Vice President. Irvine Pipeline Company, Inc.
Mr. Brisco studied at Riverside City College and Cal State Fullerton. He joined the Irvine Pipeline Company part-time in 1978 and has worked there full-time since 1984. They build public and private infrastructure focused on water, sewer, and storm drain systems. Mr. Brisco has a strong interest in STEM education and has served as a mentor for the Pick group. He was a board member of Riverside Educational Enrichment Fund (REEF). He's also a past president and served many other volunteer roles at the Victoria Club.
Wallace Brithinee
Consultant and former President, Brithinee Electric

Dr. Brithinee served as president of Brithinee Electric until Sulzer acquired the company in 2018. He is a consultant and chair of the Manufacturers' Council of the Inland Empire. Along with his twin brother, Don, he attended UCR, and they both hold PhDs in Mathematics. Before joining the Dean's Advisory Council, Dr. Brithinee was a Department of Mechanical Engineering Advisory Board member.
Winston Chung
Chairman, Winston Global Energy

Mr. Chung is the founder and chairman of Winston Global Energy Ltd., which manufactures and markets energy storage solutions and lithium batteries. He is also the director and chief scientist of China’s Lithium Battery Research and Development Center. In 2011, Mr. Chung gave UCR’s most significant gift to date from an individual named Winston Chung Hall and established the Winston Chung Global Energy Center at UCR.
Michael Clinch

Mr. Clinch is a senior consultant and materials development group leader at Innoval Technology in Banbury, Oxfordshire, UK. The company provides high-quality consultancy and technical support to investors, manufacturers, and end-users of aluminum and other metals. Mr. Clinch has been chair of the Light Metals Division at the IOM3 organization since 2014. He is also a former member of the BCOE MS&E Board of Advisors.
William "Bill" Dull
President, Triad Magnetics

Mr. Dull is a leader in the power magnetics field with more than 35 years of experience in the industry. His background leading North American divisions of Japanese, Chinese, and Taiwanese companies has provided expertise in the global market, with key business and marketing strengths in the magnetics arena.
As president of Triad Magnetics for the past 15 years, Mr. Dull has managed a diversified portfolio of standard power transformers, inductors, and power supplies and Triad’s U.S. Design Center in Perris, Calif., which provides extensive custom design services.
Nora Hackett
Visiting Scholar, Department of Botany and Plant Science - University of California, Riverside

Dr. Hackett is a visiting scholar for the Department of Botany and Plant Sciences at UCR. Before this role, she was the Director of intellectual property services at UCR and the campus liaison officer at UC Davis’ Office of Research. Dr. Hackett established the Colin E. Hackett Award in honor of her late husband to provide research support to full-time graduate students in engineering and the Nora A. Hackett Instructional Equipment Fund. She also serves as a member of the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees.
Michael Hartnett
Chairman, CEO and President, RBC Bearings, Inc.

Dr. Hartnett is the chairman, CEO, and president of RBC Bearings, Inc., an international manufacturer and marketer of highly engineered precision plain, roller, and ball bearings. Dr. Hartnett has developed numerous patents and has authored dozens of papers. He is well-respected in the field of tribology, the study of friction. Dr. Hartnett has served in many other roles at various engineering firms, such as Aftermarket Tech. Corp. and Process Fab, Inc. Dr. Hatnett lives in Oxford, Connecticut.
Brian Hawley
Chairman and CTO, Luminex Software, Inc.

Mr. Hawley is currently chairman and CTO of Luminex Software, Inc. in Riverside. The company provides mainframe data and connectivity solutions and is known for its industry-leading Mainframe Virtual Tape solutions. Mr. Hawley is an alumnus of UCR and current chair of the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees. He is also a member of several other advisory boards within BCOE and at the School of Business.
Steven Henderson
Vice President of Business Development, Invetech
Steven Henderson is VP of Business Development with Invetech (a Fortive company) for the Western United States and Asia Pacific Regions. In this role, Mr. Henderson drives business partnerships and the growth of the Design & Engineering and Contract Manufacturing Professional Service portfolios.
Mr. Henderson was the first Black student to earn an undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from The Bourns College of Engineering at the University of California Riverside in 1994. He received an MBA from the Peter F. Drucker School of Business Management 2007. He is a licensed and registered professional engineer in California with over 20 years of experience in biotechnology. Before joining Invetech, Mr. Henderson served in various leadership roles at Thermo Fisher Scientific (formerly Life Technologies/Invitrogen) for ten years.
As a Principal Consulting Engineer, he contributed his talents to numerous biotechnology, pharmaceutical drug development efforts, and in-vitro diagnostic (IVD) device manufacturing companies. His specializations are Drug Development, Cell Therapy, Program Management, Quality Systems, Facility Remediation, Validation, Business Development and Process Improvement. Mr. Henderson is a founding board member of the Council for the Advancement of Black Engineers (CABE), serving as the founding President and Chairman since its inception in 2012, and currently in the role of Chief of Staff on the CABE Advisory Board.
William "Bill" Johnson
President and CEO, Johnson Machinery Co.

Mr. Johnson served as president and CEO of Johnson Machinery from 1969 to 2017, when Quinn Catt acquired the company. His father founded the company, which was headquartered in Riverside since 1940. The company is a product provider for Caterpillar and Hyster Lift. Mr. Johnson has served on multiple advisory boards at UCR and, along with his wife, Sue Johnson, who serves on the Foundation Board, has established several endowed funds across campus.
David Key
SaaS Thought Leader, Cloud Strategies, Agile Equity, Corent Technology

Mr. Key is the managing director of Cloud Strategies, which provides strategic advisory and SaaS execution assistance services to SaaS companies. Mr. Key previously was on the founding team of FileNet (acquired by IBM for $1.6B), FieldCentrix, and YouMail. Mr. Key has extensive experience in the cloud-based software industry. He is an alumnus of UCR and has cultivated close relationships with UCR since graduating. He currently lives in Laguna Hills, CA.
Robert "Bob" Krieger
Chairman of the Board and Principal Engineer, Krieger and Stewart, Inc.

Mr. Krieger is the chairman of the board and founder and principal engineer of Krieger & Stewart, Inc., an environmental engineering firm in Riverside that provides services in water- and wastewater-related issues. Mr. Krieger attended UCR in the 50s and completed his degree at Berkeley. Mr. Krieger has remained active with UCR for many decades, serving on multiple advisory boards, and is an emeritus member of the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees.
Ching Liu
Executive Vice President, SolarMax Technology Inc and Inland Empire Renewable Energy Regional Center, LLC.

Ms. Liu is the executive vice president of SolarMax Technology, Inc. and Inland Empire Renewable Energy Regional Center, LLC. SolarMax is a full-service photovoltaic solar energy systems integrator for commercial and residential customers. Ms. Liu is a member of several advisory boards at UCR, including BCOE and the School of Business, and helped establish the SolarMax Endowed Graduate Fellowship at the School of Business and has supported various BCOE programs.
Kevin Marcus
Founder and CTO of Versium Analytics, Inc.

Mr. Marcus is currently the founder and CTO of Versium Analytics, Inc., a data technology company in Redmond, WA, that operates a LifeData® predictive analytics scoring solution. Mr. Marcus owns and operates several internet properties, investment vehicles, and equity trading systems. Mr. Marcus attended UCR in the 90s and has supported various programs at BCOE. He was also a guest lecturer.
Eric Sheppard

Dr. Sheppard is a research associate professor in the Department of Engineering at Hampton University in Virginia. He focuses on engineering education, aerospace engineering, space propulsion, and aircraft design. He was previously the Dean of the School of Engineering and Technology at Hampton University from 2004-2016 and was an associate professor at Tuskegee University.
Victor Tolan
President and CEO, B&K Precision Corporation

Mr. Tolan is the president and CEO of B&K Precision Corporation, headquartered in Yorba Linda, and provides test and measurement instruments for engineering, electronic design, and education. Mr. Tolan assumed leadership after acquiring the company with Japanese and French investors. He helped expand the company into Europe and Asia. Mr. Tolan is a School of Business Executive Fellow and has spoken at their Dean’s Speaker Series.
Shane Trussell
President, Trussell Technologies, Inc.

Dr. Trussell is the president of Trussell Technologies, Inc., an environmental engineering firm focused on process and water quality. Dr. Trussell is a registered civil engineer in California and has focused on water, seawater, and wastewater treatment throughout his career. He has more than 57 publications and presentations and is a UCR alumnus. He lives in San Diego, CA.
David Tsai
Partner, Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP

Mr. Tsai is a partner in Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP's San Francisco office and co-head of the firm's Taiwan practice. His practice focuses on intellectual property, patent, trade secret, trademark, copyright, complex breach of contract, and product defect litigation in courts and international arbitration tribunals. His late father was a professor of Mechanical Engineering at BCOE, and the Tsai family established the Lung-Wen Tsai Mechanical Design Fund for graduate students, in his memory in 2004. Mr. Tsai has served on the UCR Foundation Board of Trustees since July 2015.
