The Mechanical Engineering Design and Development Lab (MEDDL) is committed to cultivating creativity in University of California, Riverside (UCR) students, staff, and faculty through interdisciplinary innovation initiatives and outreach. Innovation, as we understand it, is a spectrum such that innovation begins where science meets technology, technology meets design, and design meets engineering; that innovation knows no boundaries, and imagination is without limitations. MEDDL firmly believes that research should be transparent, and that knowledge should be communal which is why this laboratory promises to serve as a universal and inclusive hub for UCR creatives from any background.

Safety first! Get trained on equipment
- Review the Standard Operating Procedures, MEDDL Policy and User Agreements. Sign the documents and email them to meddl@engr.ucr.edu.
- Register and self-report your experience with our machines.
- Schedule a training session on the makeRspace equipment, show up to training and receive a certificate of completion.
Request a quote for your project
In this form, you will be asked to provide your contact information, and name your department. Having this information allows us to generate an accurate quote for costs of materials, machine time, as well as labor and other services. Please also provide us with the date you need your project by so that we can produce your order in a timely manner. View our rates and fees here.
